Who we are

Freediving---also called apnea diving or skin diving---is the practice of underwater breath-holding. Sydney Seals Freediving Club is a not-for-profit, volunteer-run organisation that supports the development and growth of freedivers in Sydney and surrounding regions. We run pool training, competitions, depth sessions, fun dives, masterclasses, and workshops.

We are an affiliated club of the Australian Freediving Association (AFA).

Our aims

We create an environment that encourages freedivers to reach their full potential through developing skills, healthy competition, and connection with water and community. We promote freediving as a clean and safe sport, enhancing education on water confidence and safety skills. We foster a collective of freedivers through events and activities, including efforts to conserve, restore, and care for marine ecosystems while promoting environmentally friendly practices.

How we came to be

Sydney offers endless stunning beaches, dive spots, and access to depth. The freediving community here has thrived for some time, with many talented instructors and schools operating across the city.

The club formed to bring this community together, to facilitate access to pools, to uphold high standards of safety, and to streamline the organisation of competitions, events, and fun dives.

Sydney Seals does not run or facilitate freediving certifications---we leave that work to the talented instructors around Sydney. Our training helps club members progress in their freediving journey. As a not-for-profit, we do not favour any particular freediving business.
